KARONSIH, Traditional Dance that tells about the love story between Sekartaji and Panji Asmara Bangun.

The traditional dance named Karonsih. Karonsih traditional dance and Lambangsih describe the people who fall in love. It is between male and female.

Karonsih is the dance that tells the love and longing Dewi Sekartaji that left by Panji Asmara Bangun, her husband. It is known as Karonsih comes from the Javanese “Kekaron” or “Sakloron tansah asih”. It means that both of them are loved each other.

This dance usually performs on the Javanese traditional wedding party. After the traditional ceremony held with the wedding couples’ families, the wedding couples’ parents and “pager ayu” accompanied by “cucuk lampah” dancer walk to the aisle. After sit on the aisle, Karonsih dance is performed. But sometimes, there is Panji Asmara Bangun performed accompanies the wedding couple as “cucuk lampah” dancer.

Karonsih Synopsis

It was narrated that Panji Asmara Bangun must leave the palace and masqueraded himself as the villager to know the condition all the people on Kediri kingdom. It was done also to know the Dewi Sekartaji’s sincerity to Panji Asmara Bangun. Panji Asmara Bangun left Dewi Sekar Taji without permission and said nothing. His left made Dewi Sekar Taji so confused. As a wife, she felt her soulmate. Dewi Sekar Taji left the palace accompanied with her assistant to look for where Panji Asmara Bangun was. Panji Asmara Bangun knew that his wife went to look for him, he finally knew her wife feeling. He decided to go back to the palace. Dewi Sekartaji so angry because Panji Asmara Bangun was confused with her love. She was cranky when Panji Asmara Bangun arrived. Panji Asmara Bangun tried to seduce Dewi Sekartaji by dancing and gave her flower. Dewi Sekartaji melted her heart and hug Panji Asmara Bangun.

At the other source also narrated that Dewi Sekartaji waited her husband on the jungle.

Dewi Sekartaji waited and waited Panji Asmara Bangun- her husband. But her husband didn’t come. Dewi Sekartaji continued to look for her husband while she prayed to God. She hoped there was nothing happened to her husband.

Unwittingly, when she prayed suddenly her husband- Panji Asmara Bangun came. Dewi Sekartaji rather angry. She gone and so disapointed because Panji Asmara Bangun left her overlong. Knowing that his wife was disapointed, Panji Asmara Bangung tried to persuade her using all ways. By chased her, took her favourite flower and put it on the Sekartaji’s head. Finally, Dewi Sekartaji melted her heart and happy. They danced together.

As stated above that, Karonsih dance usually performed on the traditional wedding party..

Before the party begins, usually the male dancer will guide the bride and her family to the aisle. By accompanied Ladrang Temanten, the dancer, bride and her family walk together to the aisle. The name of this dance is also stated above. It is Cucuk Lampah. The male dancer will dance scatty or just “tayungan”. Tayungan means walk slowly for male dancer.

When all wedding couple and their family are on the aisle, the Karonsih dance is perfomed after the they pray and somegreeting of each family.

Karonsih Accompaniment 

“Gending”to accompanied Karonsih dance begins with Pathetan Pelog 5 – Ktw. Pangkur Ngrenas Pelog 5 and then will be continued by Gangsaran and change the tone to be Slendro – Ktw. Kinanthi Sandhung Sledro Menyuro – Lambangsari and will be end by Ldr. Sigromangsah Sendro Menyuro.
