Bantul Regency is a regency in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Its capital is Bantul. The motto of this district is Projotamansari stands for Productive-Professional, Ijo royo royo, Orderly, Safe, Healthy, and Asri. It is adjacent to Yogyakarta City and Sleman Regency in the north, Gunung Kidul Regency in the east, Indian Ocean in the south, and Kulon Progo Regency in the west. On May 27, 2006, a massive earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale caused considerable damage to the area and the deaths of at least 3,000 Bantul residents. The worst areas affected by the earthquake were Pundong and Imogiri.
